LEAN SPECIALIST

Job description

To support the objectives of the Lean Six Sigma office by driving the Lean Transformation agenda toward development of a organisation “lean” culture. The incumbent is expected to lead the efforts of deployment, sustainment and education of Lean within the organisation. The incumbent is expected to develop and implement Lean Transformation strategies across the organisation that build lean capacity to deliver on defined product and service standards, prioritise and increase value for internal and external customers, and increase focus across the business on Safety, Quality, Service and Cost.

The position is ultimately responsible for developing and supporting Lean programmes, and the establishment of Lean Champions to assist the programmes within the various business units. The Lean Specialist will be responsible for defining and establishing best practices to improve and maintain employee efficiency.


Key activities

Capacity Building

  • Train and coach staff across the organisation on Lean principles, tools and techniques
  • Introduce Lean programmes and practices within the business and ensure their sustainability and desired impact on the business

Culture Transformation

  •  Lead targeted interventions at leadership and staff levels to motivate the desired culture change
  • Establish and introduce systems that will ensure sustainability of the desired culture transformation

Planning and budgeting

  • Contribute to sectional budget
  •  Establish and maintain detailed project plans and budgets for each project and/or initiative
  • Monitor, evaluate and report progress and impact of the respective projects and initiatives

Execution

  •  Ensure that the assigned projects and initiatives are delivered in line with agreed timelines and to expected scope
  • Deliver assigned projects and initiatives at the expected level of quality while managing risk and cost to budget.

Reporting

  • Prepare and present reports from time to time for the LSS Manager and support presentations to stakeholders (e.g.  Management and Staff) as necessary.

Change management

  •  Develop and implement Change Management plans for each of the assigned projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Human Resources and change management teams.
  • Ensure employees are continuously informed of relevant changes and developments within the organisation as related to the projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate assigned projects and initiatives with change activities across the organisation to ensure alignment and efficiency in implementation.

Performance management

  • Deliver projects and initiatives within pre-defined performance standards.

Project Management

  •  Lead project teams to ensure adherence to the organisation project management framework in all projects undertaken.

Education required

  •  A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Lean Enterprise qualification.
  •  Process Management and/or Project Management qualification an added advantage.

Experience required

  •  Minimum 5 years professional experience
  • Experience with lean tools and techniques, process mapping and business process improvement, change management, and team leadership.
